How to convert a video to GIF
Click Upload Video and select any video file up to 1 GB. Once uploaded, set your start time to choose which moment in the video to begin from. Then choose how many seconds you want to capture using the Duration setting.
Pick your FPS, width, and color palette, then click Convert to GIF. Real-time progress shows as your GIF is being generated. When done, a download button appears. The file is deleted from the server after you download it.
How to get the best quality GIF
Use 15 or 20 FPS for smooth motion without a huge file size. 10 FPS works well for slow-moving content like screen recordings. 24 FPS gives the smoothest result but produces the largest file.
Set colors to Best (256) for the highest quality palette - this is the maximum GIF color depth. Use Balanced (128) if you need a smaller file with acceptable quality. Compact (64) is good for simple graphics with few colors like logos or text animations.
Keep the duration short. GIFs grow very quickly in size. A 5-second, 640px, 15fps GIF is typically 3 to 8 MB. A 15-second version of the same clip can be 15 to 30 MB. For sharing on social media or messaging apps, 2 to 5 seconds at 640px works best.
GIF vs video - when to use each
GIFs auto-play everywhere without needing a play button or video player. They work in email clients, messaging apps, social media posts, and websites. This makes them perfect for short reactions, product demos, memes, and how-to snippets.
Videos are better for anything longer than 10 seconds or where audio matters. If you need to share a clip where sound is important, convert to MP4 instead. For silent, looping visual content that needs to auto-play, GIF is the right format.
